Army CB Josh Jenkins reportedly injured in fight with teammate
Army cornerback Josh Jenkins was reportedly injured in an early-July fight with a teammate and it's reportedly unclear if he will be able to continue his football career.
According to the Times Herald-Record, Jenkins was injured in an alleged altercation with former Army player Seth Combs.
Combs was dismissed from the team after the incident.
Suddenly it is unclear if Jenkins, a Pittsburg, Calif. native, will play football again. He had a fight with a teammate at West Point on the Fourth of July. Jenkins suffered a head injury from the fight. His condition was uncertain, and he was unavailable for comment.
According to a statement from the from the Army's public affairs office, the altercation happened over the July 4th weekend.
“The alleged altercation occurred near his barracks room with another cadet late Saturday night or early Sunday morning after returning from a restaurant/bar off-post," the statement said. “The incident is under investigation."
The statement also said that he was taken to the hospital on the morning of July 5th after other students witnessed Jenkins acting "out of character."
Jenkins, set to be a junior in 2014, led the team with four interceptions in 2014. He was second on the team with 63 tackles and also had eight pass breakups. The Times Herald-Record quoted Army defensive coordinator Jay Bateman as endorsing Jenkins for possible All-American status in the future.
Combs was also a possible starter for the Black Knights at linebacker. He had three tackles in nine games in 2014.
